Cherry Blossoms at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden

The cherry blossoms are blooming in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden! They typically start blooming at the beginning of April. We visited these cherry blossom trees at the BBG two years ago, in May, when the entire esplanade was in bloom and it was absolutely breathtaking. This year, I wanted to go a little earlier to see the trees in bloom around the Japanese hill and pond garden. The BBG was so careful and planned for different areas to be in bloom at different times. If you want to check which trees are at their peak bloom, you can look here. It’s also beautiful when they’re all in post-peak bloom and you walk on a carpet of cherry blossom petals. So fun!

Afterwards, we went to Prospect Park and had a little picnic, since you’re not allowed to picnic in the BBG. This whole area of Brooklyn is a fun time for kids (and adults.) The BBG, Prospect Park, Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park Zoo are all right next to each other. Definitely worth a trip from Manhattan or beyond.

I can’t tell you how many people stopped to ask where the baby boater hats were from. Haha, super popular. They’re just from Amazon! I wore my new espadrilles from Soludos, which are the most comfortable summer shoes ever. I think these denim ones are exclusive to Saks, but everywhere else that sells Soludos, has the cutest black & white striped ones in the same style.

If you’re in NYC, you absolutely have to go check out the cherry blossoms and everything else in bloom at this massive botanical garden. The BBG is even free all day Tuesday (8am – 6pm) and also Saturday mornings (10am – 12pm.) They have a little gift shop too with really cool plants and gifts.
